19931992 and 1993 NCAA Champ

[+] as a sophomore at the university of florida, she became only the second player at the time to repeat as ncaa women’s singles champion, defeating cinda gurney of the university of north carolina in the final.

[+] finished her sophomore year with a 34-0 record… ended her career winning her last 44 matches dating back to her freshman year.

[+] played her first tournament as a professional at eastbourne where she reached the third round. lost to patty fendick.

1992florida gators

[+] won the ncaa singles title for the university of florida, defeating georgia’s shannan mccarthy in the final. played no. 1 singles for florida, leading the team to the ncaa team title. her ncaa title, combined with wins at the national collegiate clay courts and rolex collegiate indoor championships, gave her three of the four intercollegiate tennis association collegiate grand slam titles for the 1991-92 season.

[+] was a quarterfinalist at philadelphia as an amateur, defeating amy frazier, 6-4, 6-4, before losing to gabriela sabatini, 6-4, 7-6 (2). with shaun stafford, she reached the doubles final.

[+] reached the second round of the us open. defeated petra rittner and lost to eventual champion monica seles, 7-5, 6-0. the 7-5 set was the most competitive set any player had against seles during the tournament.

[+] as a freshman raymond was named the ITCA rookie player of the year and was voted tennis magazine's collegiate player of the year.

[+] the gators captured their first ncaa team title with 5-3 victory over texas.

[+] florida completed third undefeated regular season in five years, posting a 30-0 overall record.

[+] florida won third consecutive SEC title with a win over georgia.

[+] uf won the ROLEX national team indoor championship.

[+] on sept. 6, 1996, lisa raymond became the first gator to win a grand slam event, when she and mixed doubles partner patrick galbraith won the us open.

[+] when lisa defeated martina hingis 4-6 6-2 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the european indoor championships on oct. 17, 1997, she became the first ever former NCAA singles champion to defeat the no.1 ranked played in the world.

[+] won five usta national junior titles, including the 1989 usta national hardcourts, the 1989 usta national girls’ 18s doubles title (with erika delone) and the 1987 14-and-under national doubles title (with jennifer capriati).

[+] wta: in 1992 was a quarterfinalist at san juan (as a qualifier) and philadelphia (d. world no. 17 frazier; l. to no. 3 sabatini), breaking into top 100 afterwards (november 16) at no. 76; reached 2r at boca raton, canadian open and us open; first top 100 finish at no. 76. in 1991 reached first tour qf at westchester as a qualifier. in 1990 received wildcard into us open and reached sf at itf/waco-usa. in 1989 made tour debut in qualifying for wichita; unranked, in only third outing, qualified for us open (l. 2r to world no. 20 cueto 64 75)
